Ardee Reaffirms 20-Year Twinning Partnership with Italian Town Nettuno
The milestone agreement was officially renewed during a special visit to County Louth by an Italian delegation featuring Nettuno Mayor Nicola Burrini and City Council President Roberto Alicandri. A formal declaration was signed at the Ardee Civic Offices, locking in a shared commitment to future cooperative ventures between the two regions.
As part of the itinerary, Mayor Burrini also visited County Hall to sign the official visitors’ book and meet with local elected representatives and administrative staff. Situated on the western coast of Italy near Rome, Nettuno first forged ties with Ardee in the early 2000s following grassroots community exchanges. Over the last twenty years, this arrangement has blossomed, driving frequent reciprocal visits and cementing bonds across tourism, education, and cultural initiatives.

Reflecting on the milestone, Cathaoirleach of Ardee Municipal District, Cllr Jim Tenanty, emphasized that the arrangement remains a source of immense local pride. He noted that the partnership has successfully weathered the test of time, fostering genuine human connections across communities. Mayor Burrini echoed these sentiments, expressing deep honour and pointing out that the renewed pact will open fresh doors for citizens in both nations.
Adding to these comments, the Chair of Louth County Council’s Twinning Committee, Cllr Kevin Callan, underscored that global alliances yield tangible localized rewards. Through structured student exchanges, public engagement, and shared cultural programmes, the link continues to enrich lives throughout County Louth, ensuring that coming generations will inherit an even stronger foundation of friendship between Ireland and Italy.
